Hometown Jamboree
On the first Saturday of each month (see our calendar for occasional blackouts), Rileys at Los Rios Rancho puts on an old-time music variety show, just like those great old radio and t.v. shows of the 40s and 50s. There’s one difference – we throw in a hearty family-style dinner to boot!
The Rileys Mountaineers BandAt the Hometown Jamboree, families can tuck into a tasty meal and enjoy a hand-clappin’, knee-slappin’, toe-tappin’ good time as Riley’s Mountaineers and special guest performers pick, fiddle and sing their favorite old-time bluegrass, western, and gospel tunes, as well as a few surprises along the way.
Guest musicians are always welcome to tote along an instrument or two and join in the free-wheeling jam after the show.  You never know who’ll turn up, or what you’ll hear next.
Come on up for some chicken and pickin’! At our reasonable adult and kid prices, it’s the best meal – and deal – around. Here are the dates:
  • June 7, 2008
  • July 5, 2008
  • August 2, 2008
  • September 6, 2008
  • October 4, 2008

Gospel night
Sheet MusicHankering to hear – and lift your voice in – some good old down-home gospel hymns? Come gather with us in the old packing shed and enjoy music, refreshments, and fellowship as the Riley family – along with a slew of guest singers and musicians – lead the assembly in traditional gospel music. Admission is free; a love offering will be taken. Requests are welcome, so dust off your old hymnals and tote 'em along! Gospel Nights are the third Friday of each month, from January through August.
Old Ways Days
Plowing at Old Ways Days

Come experience farm life the way your grandparents – or theirs – did. Learn about old-time farming and everyday pioneer life at Old Ways Days.

See how farmers planted their crops, from the early days with horse and plow (and a good, strong back!) to those newfangled “horseless” tractors. Try your own hand at driving a team, or at other frontier activities like peeling bark to build a log cabin, making your own rope or candles, or throwing a tomahawk. Visit cowboy camps or Civil War tents, take a gander at quilts like Grandma used to make. Visit with authors of novels and histories about early Americans. After the day’s work is done, enjoy a kick-up-yer-heels barn dance at a special version of our monthly Hometown Jamboree.

Old Ways Days is a fun-filled and informative visit to simpler times. Join us!

NEW THIS YEAR

Old Ways Days will include a chuck wagon cookoff – the only one scheduled in California this year.  Watch as national champion chuck wagon crews compete for $3000 in cash and prizes. See how cooks on the trail prepared food for weary and hungry cowboys.  Better yet, pick up a meal ticket and try the grub yourself!

Our Old West village will be complete with period vendors and tradesmen, a Texas Ranger encampment, Western artists and authors, and more. A presentation on Victorian theater will demonstrate the type of “high tone” entertainment folks enjoyed at the local “opry house” in the days before movin’ pictures, radio, and TV.

All in all, this year’s Old Ways Days will be the most fun to be found this side of the Pecos!

Ticket info: General admission is free (small fees for some activities). Chuck wagon meal tickets available on site during the event only. Advance tickets required for Hometown Jamboree.

On selected Saturdays in July, Rileys at Los Rios Rancho invites guests to throw a blanket on our lawn, sit back, and enjoy a classic Western film – or two – under the evening stars.

Movies will range from early silents (where the audience helps out with sound effects), to B-westerns, to modern classics. The films start at dusk, and seating’s first-come, first-served, so come out early and enjoy our trivia quizzes, children’s costume contests, live music, and other western fun before the shows, starting at 7 p.m.

John Wayne and Gene Autry Movies on the GreenBoth nights’ showings are free to the public. Guests are welcome to pack a picnic basket, or we’ll have food available for purchase. Bring a blanket or lawn chairs and a jacket or a sweater (even our summer nights can be a bit brisk) and enjoy!

Cowboy Chuckwagon Supper & Show
Chuck WagonEach August, we celebrate the cowboy tradition with our Cowboy Chuckwagon Supper and Show. Supper's served fresh off the tailgate of our 1880s Studebaker chuckwagon, and includes tasty BBQ tri-tip, trail beans, corn on the cob, and sourdough biscuits, washed down with lemonade, iced tea, or campfire coffee. For dessert, there's Dutch oven cobbler.
"Riley's Regulators" (our own Riley's Mountaineers, cowboyed up for the occasion) keep things lively with traditional and classic cowboy tunes, and for those who enjoy an old-time waltz or two-step, there's a dance floor. Adventurous guests can try their hands at roping, branding, or saddling. The less adventurous can take a turn cranking the ice cream freezer or the coffee grinder. Tickets for adults and kids will be available online.

Apple Butter Festival
Apple Butter FestivalPioneer families made a custom of gathering together in late fall to cook up apple butter from the last apples of the season. It was a practical way to preserve the apples throughout the year and a pleasurable way to preserve community spirit.

Our annual Thanksgiving weekend Apple Butter Festival celebrates this fine old tradition, and we invite families to come up and share in it. Apple butter Festival KettleWe’ll have a hands-on demonstration of apple butter making the old-time (and slow!) way - outdoors in a big copper kettle. Come learn how to “start the snitz” and “add the money”, plus enjoy pioneer crafts and games, music, carriage rides, and lots more.

At day’s end on Saturday , we’ll usher in the Christmas season with our “Lighting of the Ranch”, then cap off the evening just like our ancestors did, with a good old-fashioned hoedown.

General admission is free (small fees for some activities). Tickets required for Saturday night hoedown (includes supper of Pumpkin Bread and Harvest Soup). Watch for upcoming event dates:
